Queenstown Tramping

Queenstown accommodation

One of the slowest and gentlest ways of appreciating Queenstown is to take advantage of its numerous walks and trails. For example you can travel up to the Skyline Complex (by Gondola) and get your own copy of the Skyline Trail map. There are a variety of walking trails available.

For example if you want an easy walk take the Gondola to the Skyline complex. You can then follow a well marked trail that will take you on a 30 minute wander. You will see the Luge, the reservoir and then a quiet walk through the trees on your way back to the complex.

If you are looking for something a little more strenuous then you need to take the Lower Ridge Track. This is roughly a 25 minute walk. The track is well marked and will take you up to the Luge and then across to the Parapenters before passing the reservoir. You will ten go through some pines and then emerge on a ride above Bob’s Peak – the views are well worth the walk but you do need to be fit and have on some good hiking boots.

For really fit hikers the Ben Lomond Summit offers a great walk with some awesome views. The trip is roughly 5 hours return, so make sure you allow a full day to do this. To get to the track you take the gondola to the Skyline and then follow the signs to the saddle before the steep climb up the left to the top (1747m).
